The Five Most Stolen Cars In North America

Over the last few years, used cars have become more valuable than ever. Unfortunately, that also means they’re more attractive to thieves. While any car can be targeted for theft, the stats show that these specific models are the ones taken most often.

5. 2019 Toyota Camry

For decades, the Toyota Camry has been a favorite among consumers for its dependability and high resale value. The 2019 model is particularly appealing for its great fuel efficiency and hybrid capabilities. While these features are desirable to consumers, they are also enticing to thieves. Data on reported thefts shows that over the last couple of years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of Camry thefts.

4. 1997 Honda Accord

The Honda Accord remains popular because it is durable, easy to find parts for, and has good resale value. Even older models are still sought out by consumers and thieves alike. The 1997 Accord is particularly prone to theft. Unfortunately, its outdated security system makes it easy to break into. Anyone who currently owns an old Accord should revamp the car with modern security features.

3. 2000 Honda Civic

The combination of small size and lots of engine power makes the Honda Civic an appealing option for anyone who loves to hit the open road. It’s also easy to fix up and modify since it’s compatible with parts from other Honda cars. However, that also makes the car a main target for thieves because they can take the car to a chop shop and get a ton of money from all the parts. The 2000 Accord is the most stolen model and experienced a slight increase in the number of reported thefts in recent years.

1. 2006 Ford F-150

Like the Silverado, the Ford F-150 is beloved for its durability, cargo space, and powerful performance. It has occupied the top of the reported thefts list for several years, and interest in this vehicle doesn’t look like it will be dying down anytime soon.

Just because these vehicles are the most desired by thieves, doesn’t mean you should miss out on owning one. Regardless of what kind of car you have, there are several things you can do to prevent burglars driving off with it. For starters, lock your doors when you’re not around and try to park in areas that have good lighting or security cameras. You should also get some anti-theft devices like a steering wheel lock, engine immobilizer, and lug nuts on your wheels. Thieves like easy marks, so it only takes a few modifications to deter them and make your car a lot safer.

My insurer says my premium went up because thefts increased in my postal code. Why should I pay for my neighbors?

You open your renewal notice and there it is. Your premium climbed, and the explanation says thefts increased in your postal code. It feels unfair because you did not steal a car, leave your keys out, or file a claim, yet you are being charged more anyway.
