GPS position comes from satellites, not from the same cellular towers that provide your car’s internet connection. Toyota’s newer multimedia platform combines cloud navigation with onboard capabilities. Toyota says its system was designed to recognize when a vehicle approaches an area with poor connectivity and prepare relevant offline information in advance. The goal is to keep navigation available even when the network disappears.

Hyundai Is Moving Toward The Same Idea

Hyundai introduced a newer online navigation approach in 2026 that retrieves current map information from its servers.
