The Five Fastest Cars In The World

The last few years have seen an influx of supercars in production. With innovative designs and technology, each new supercar is an attempt to surpass all others.

Many of the best manufacturers claim that their cars can reach a top speed of 300 mph, but they’ve yet to prove it. Fortunately, there are some vehicles that do live up to the hype.

For their verified record-breaking speed, these are the fastest street-legal cars in the world.

The Bugatti Veyron has secured a spot in the history books for being the vehicle that redefined the supercar trend. Back in 2005, it was the fastest car in the world.

The Veyron lost the crown two years later, when the SSC Ultimate Aero set a new speed record. The Veyron Super Sport was designed to take that crown back.

Bugatti made improvements to the weight and aerodynamics of the original Veyron, while also boosting the car’s power to a whopping 1,184 horsepower. The Veyron Super Sport was a smash hit, reaching a verified top speed of 268 mph.

Like Bugatti, Hennessy made their supercar with the only intention being that it break world speed records. Inspired by the Lotus Elise, the Hennessy Venom GT featured a powerful twin-turbo V8 engine beneath its sleek, aerodynamic curves.

With an impressive 1,244 horsepower, the Venom GT proved its mettle in front of onlookers at the Kennedy Space Center. And with a top speed of 270 mph, it is still one of the fastest street-legal cars ever made.

The Agera RS is an incredible engineering feat. Koenigsegg referred to the car as the "ultimate track tool", and it certainly lived up to its name. During a run on a Nevada highway, the Agera RS clocked in at an average speed of 278 mph.

And if that wasn’t impressive enough, the car managed to go even faster and reached a top speed of 284 mph during the run.

The folks at SSC North America did a lot of boasting when they unveiled the Tuatara. With a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, carbon-fiber chassis, and active aerodynamic technology, SSC claimed that the Tuatara could exceed a top speed of 300 mph.

Those claims fell a bit short of the mark, but the Tuatara is still one of the two fastest cars in the world—in a verified run, it reached a top speed of 286 mph.
