Celebrity Car Lovers: Jay Leno

A lot of celebrities love cars, but few have a collection that can rival that of Jay Leno. The famous comedian is known for his adoration of hot rods and his assortment of 180 cars and 160 motorcycles is one of the best vehicle collections in the world. Over the years, his California garage has grown immense and is packed with a wide range of wheels, from old-school muscle cars to the latest supercars and everything in between. Leno recently got out of the hospital after being seriously injured in a car fire accident. To celebrate his recovery, here’s a look at some of the comedian’s most rare and expensive vehicles.

1909 Stanley Steamer

This classic steam-powered car exemplifies Jay Leno’s eclectic taste. The Stanley Steamer can take up to 30 minutes to get running and it’s not the easiest vehicle to drive. Nevertheless, every now and then, Leno does take it for a cruise around town and the car is a wonderful remnant of the early American auto industry. Leno restored the car to the beauty of its heyday, giving it an estimated value of $185,000.

1963 Chrysler Turbine

With its innovative gas turbine engine that could be powered by practically any flammable fuel, the Chrysler Turbine should have been a smash hit with consumers. Unfortunately, the car was loud and had poor overall performance. As such, Chrysler scrapped the project and destroyed nearly all 55 models of the vehicle that had been produced. Only nine Turbines survived the cull, and they were either put on display or sold to private collectors. Leno is one of two people in the world who own a 1963 Turbine and his vehicle has an estimated value of $415,000.

2017 Ford GT

The Ford GT is one of the most well-loved American supercars. The original 1966 GT dominated the Le Mans circuits, a feat that the 2017 model repeated. The Ford GT doesn’t have great mileage but with a top speed of 348 kph (216 mph) and estimated value of $453,750, it is one of Leno’s favorite cars.

1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing Coupe

With its streamlined exterior that featured cool gullwing doors, it’s no surprise that people were instantly drawn to the Mercedes 300 SL Coupe. Leno was able to snag this bad boy for a cheap price, but he ended up paying a fortune to get it back in mint condition. After equipping this former race car with an I6 engine that generates 180 horsepower, it has an estimated value of $1.8 million.

1967 Lamborghini Miura P400

First produced in 1966, the Lamborghini Miura is often regarded as one of the first supercars. Many also consider it to be one of the most beautiful cars in the world. A vintage Lamborghini like this is hard to find on used car markets and even if you did, it’ll cost you a pretty penny. Most Miuras are kept safe on display in museums, but Leno managed to grab one for his collection. Leno’s 1967 Miura P400 is equipped with a powerful V12 engine and has an estimated value of $3.5 million.

1934 Duesenberg Walker Coupe

Since this Duesenberg Walker Coupe is the only aerodynamic model of the car, it is undoubtedly one of the rarest vehicles in Jay Leno’s collection. This car was pretty cheap when it was first unveiled in the early 1930s, but a flawless restoration has significantly upped the price tag of this classic beauty. Leno’s Walker Coupe features a huge V8 engine with downdraft carburetors and 265 horsepower. With an estimated value of $20 million, this is the most expensive vehicle in Leno’s amazing collection.

Jay Leno has one of the biggest car collections in the world. We can’t cover all of his stellar rides, but we hope you’ve enjoyed this look at some of the comedian’s rarest additions.
